First-Time Setup: Recommended Settings
Last updated April 16, 2026
1. Set Your Compression Preset
Head to Automations > Compression and choose a preset that suits your store. If you’re not sure where to start, Balanced is a safe default — it reduces file sizes significantly without any visible drop in image quality.
See Compression Presets Explained for a full comparison.
Note: If you have a lot of images, processing may take a while. You don’t need to keep the app open — Crush.pics will continue working in the background.
2. (Optional) Set Up File Renaming
If your images have generic names like IMG_4821.jpg, renaming them with descriptive, keyword-rich filenames can help with SEO. Set up your renaming rules under Automations > File Rename. Just note - File Renaming cannot be undone.
Warning: Renaming images changes their URLs. If you’ve manually added image links (for example, by copying and pasting URLs) in product descriptions, blog posts, emails, or external sites, those images may break. Images added through Shopify (like the image picker or theme settings) won’t be affected. If you’re unsure, contact our support team and we’ll help you check.
3. (Optional) Set Up Alt Text
Missing alt text is one of the most common SEO gaps on Shopify stores. Crush.pics can automatically generate and apply alt text based on your product data. Also note - ALT text renaming cannot be undone.
See Setting Up Alt Text.
