Which Images Get Compressed
Last updated April 16, 2026
Crush.pics can access and compress a wide range of images from your Shopify store. Here’s a breakdown of what’s included — and what isn’t.
What Gets Compressed
Product Images
Images attached to your products and variants are fully supported. This includes all images across your product catalogue, regardless of how many variants a product has.
Collection Images
Featured images assigned to collections are included.
Blog & Article Images
Images embedded in blog posts and articles are processed.
Page Images
Images added to your Shopify pages (e.g. About Us, FAQ) are included.
Store Files (Shopify Files)
Images uploaded via Shopify Admin > Content > Files are also accessible for compression.
What Doesn’t Get Compressed
Theme Assets
Images that are part of your Shopify theme (e.g. banners, icons, or background images baked into your theme files) are not processed by Crush.pics. These are managed through your theme code and aren’t accessible via Shopify’s product/file APIs.
Metafield Images
Images stored in custom metafields may not be picked up depending on how they’ve been configured. If you’re unsure whether a specific metafield image is being processed, check the Activity Log or reach out to support.
External-Hosted Images
If your store loads images from an external CDN or third-party URL (rather than Shopify’s own CDN), those aren’t accessible to Crush.pics.
A Note on Shopify’s Image Handling
When Shopify serves images to your customers, it may apply its own on-the-fly resizing and optimisation. Crush.pics works on the source files stored in your Shopify store — meaning the benefits compound with Shopify’s own CDN delivery.
