What Are Automations?

Automations are the hands-free side of Crush.pics. Instead of manually compressing or updating images every time you add new products, automations handle it for you automatically in the background.
What Can Automations Do?
Crush.pics supports three types of automations:
| Automation | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Compression | Automatically compresses new images as they’re uploaded to your store |
| File Renaming | Renames image files based on rules you define (e.g. using product title, handle, or position) |
| Alt Text | Applies alt text to images automatically based on a template you set |
These can be enabled independently — you might want compression and alt text but not renaming, for example.
How Do Automations Get Triggered?
Crush.pics listens for new image uploads to your Shopify store. When a new image is detected, any enabled automations are applied to it automatically.
This means:
- Images uploaded through the Shopify admin (Products, Files, etc.) are covered.
- Images imported via third-party apps (e.g. product importers) are also picked up, as long as they go through Shopify’s standard image pipeline.
What About Existing Images?
Automations will process all existing images on your store. Some automations only apply to product images, like filename & ALT tag renaming.

Where Do I Set Up Automations?
All automation settings live under the Automations section of Crush.pics:
- Automations > Compression — for compression automation
- Automations > File Renaming — for renaming rules
- Automations > Alt Text — for alt text templates
Each has its own enable/disable toggle so you can turn them on or off without losing your configuration.
Can I Pause Automations?
Yes — just toggle the automation off in its Automation page. Your rules and settings are saved, so you can turn it back on at any time without having to reconfigure everything.
Processing Speed
Automation speed depends on your current plan. Higher-tier plans process images faster, while lower-tier plans may take longer to work through large batches.
If you’ve recently uploaded a lot of images, it may take some time for all automations to complete — this is expected.
